Glendale Avenue and Loop 101 Park+Ride:
Situated on 12.70 acres along the northeast quadrant of Glendale Avenue and 99th Avenue, Glendale’s first Park+Ride is scheduled to be completed in December 2007. Designed to operate as both a bus rapid transit facility and as a local transit stop, the facility will serve transit riders along east and westbound Glendale Avenue, the “Luke Link” and express service to and from Phoenix. Unique in design and operation, the Park+Ride is utilizing solar energy to power lighting and irrigation controls along Glendale Avenue’s on-street passenger areas. Pervious concrete, an environmentally friendly pavement surface is being utilized in the parking area to assist with drainage and to reduce the urban heat island effect typically experienced in large parking areas. Parking spaces will provide covered parking, and there will be fully shaded passenger waiting areas at the bus platform. Phase I of the Park+Ride will allow for 392 parking spaces, with future expansion for 254 additional spaces.

Glendale Avenue Bridge Widening,
107th Avenue to 99th Avenue

The City of Glendale, as outlined in its bicycle plan, is incorporating a bicycle route adjacent to Glendale Avenue
from 107th to 99th Avenues on the north side and additional 1,000 feet west of New River Road on the south side (to match existing improvements). Specifically, the project required widening Glendale Avenue to include eastbound
and westbound bicycle lanes and widening of the New River Bridge. This project is one part of a multi-phase project to provide continuous bicycle access on Glendale Avenue from the eastern city limit to the western city limit, particularly Luke Air Force Base.
